In the support we provide, we believe that everyone should be able to organise their life as independently and as ordinarily as possible, while having access to specialised services whenever needed.
For every question we receive—whether it concerns housing, work or leisure—we first look to our partners across the Brussels care and support sector. Everything we achieve together improves the lives of the people we support. We are equally committed to giving back by sharing our expertise in disability support.
A network for independent living
Our mobile support team helps expand the network of people with disabilities living independently in Brussels by connecting them with people and organisations in their neighbourhood—from family doctors and local shops to community service centres.
We work closely with organisations that can have a significant impact on quality of life, such as social housing agencies.
We also support children, young people and adults in finding inclusive leisure opportunities throughout Brussels.
Supporting people experiencing homelessness
Together with CAW, Leger des Heils and Huis van Vrede, we are developing specialised support for people experiencing homelessness. In this way, we reach people with a disability—or a suspected disability—who find themselves living on the streets for a wide range of reasons: young people leaving youth care without adequate follow-up, adults who struggle to cope after the loss of their parents, or people with a migrant background who are unaware of the support available to them.
Hubbie focuses on the disability-specific needs of people in vulnerable situations. We gladly share our specialist expertise in disability support and actively participate in multidisciplinary case consultations.
Morpho – our prison support programme
We also provide support within Brussels prisons. The proportion of people with disabilities in prison is higher than in society at large. We advocate for prison environments that better reflect the needs, abilities and potential of people with a disability—or a suspected disability.
We work closely with Nido, an organisation supporting people with disabilities in Haren. Nido also opens its therapeutic care garden to prisoners who have been granted temporary release.
Good neighbours
From Hubbie's homes in Saint-Gilles and Anderlecht, we actively collaborate with organisations in the local community. Our residents enjoy taking part in activities at De Pianofabriek, training with and cheering for footballclub Union, and sharing meals at the local community service centre De Kaai.
Tailored employment support
Our job coaches help people who face barriers to the regular labour market find meaningful work through Supported Employment. We deliver this programme through Werkburo Brussel, a partnership with Zonnelied and MPC Sint-Franciscus.
Helping everyone develop their talents
Our personal development coaches enable people with disabilities to participate in leisure and lifelong learning activities across the city.
We provide an inclusive, tailored leisure programme for people with disabilities throughout the Brussels–Halle–Vilvoorde region, always in partnership with local leisure organisations. We also enjoy sharing our specialist knowledge of disability with these partners.
We also bring the wider community into our activity centre. Talented volunteers and partner organisations develop activities that match participants' interests and learning goals. For example, we work together with CVO COOVI to provide hospitality training through the Pateeke project.
Stronger together
Across Hubbie, we broaden and strengthen our services through structural, long term partnerships with organisations including Familiehulp, Zorggroep Sint-Kamillus and LDC Cosmos.
We learn from and share knowledge with organisations such as the Knowledge Centre for Wellbeing, Housing and Care (Kenniscentrum Welzijn, Wonen, Zorg) and Odisee University of Applied Sciences.
We actively participate in a range of networks, including BrOG (Brussels Regional Consultation Platform for Disability Services), BruZEL (the Brussels Primary Care Zone), the local care neighbourhood networks in Jette, Molenbeek and Anderlecht, the Dual Diagnosis Care Network, Mediander and the Flemish Association of Social Services (Vlaams Welzijnsverbond).
